A politically-charged, social-realist fable, featuring mostly non-professional actors, Capernaum is the story of a child who rebels against the life imposed on him. Zain (Zain Alrafeea) is a 12-year-old boy born to a poor family in a fictitious Middle Eastern village living a day-to-day life of poverty that fluctuates between hardship and horror. At the end of his rope, Zain launches a lawsuit against his parents for bringing him into a world of such suffering.
